I forget who, but someone on twitter commented that people were too close to the situation or too far removed.
I do agree with this idea with regards to the commentaries/reactions to the riots and how to “move forward”.
Areas that were hit included Lewisham (where I went to Primary School) and Croydon (where my Secondary and
College was). As I watched buildings burn and violence ensue I was conflicted in personal opinion. While the events that
took place were wrong on so many different levels, part of me feels that the current situation we live in comes from the top
as well as below.
I also beleave that people in power tend to have an angle. There is far too much emphasis on
specific points like lack of fathers or youth centres. If the issues are to be tackled they need to be
faced as a whole rather than trying to come up with one angle. The solutions will come from an
improvement/change to the current systems in place rather than creating new ones.
They would include education, opportunities and opinion. Education need to equip children both
at school and in the home with the skills to allow them to prosper in the real world
(not a hyper-reality of school). The opportunities for them need to be in place
for when education is finished. What’s the point in learning if opportunity is not there.
Finally opinion refers to assumptions that can be made about certain types of people.
The riots was mainly refered to as a youth issue and by some a black one.
If the nation is to move forward in a positive light, these ideas need to be tackled.
I understand that there are lots of accounts/opinions
out there but if there is a positive out of this (aside from the example of human spirit),
it’s that these issues are at the forefront of the nations contiousness.
I had a coffee meeting a few weeks back with Royston Legore, Director of R n D Creatives.
They have now taken me on board with their team/family so I am very much looking forward to
working with them in the future. I also have a special trip booked! I met some of the other creatives on
set in hype park for Shai Spooners viral video. He is Stylist for N-Dubz and was doing the project for his website so I took some stills for it.
The website is updated so check it out. Thank Billy Boyce for the colour change!
